Uffa meg what happened I am not at home 👀
Norway had only one bronze to show for their efforts up until yesterday, but they were really pumped about the men's 1500m race. The defending Olympic champion was Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who is regarded as one of the best middle-distance runners of his generation. His usual tactic is to lag near the back of the pack. However, last year at the world championships he was stunned by Josh Kerr, who has a mighty kick. So, for better or worse, he decided to set the pace in this race and put some daylight between him and the rest of the pack.
Well...he began running out of gas around 300m from the finish. At the turn into the stretch, it was him and Kerr. But then two Americans came charging up on both sides, and Ingebrigtsen staggered over the finish line in fourth place. Cole Hocker was the American who won the gold.
Well...as you can read, this did not go over well within Norway. Disappointment would be a given, but the seething fury in the press and social media is stunning. Jakob better find hisself a good pair of fake eyeglasses and mustache for the trip home.
