My "go-to" for FPS reviews:

Dooms still the king!  And Quake.

And the one that pretty much started it all.  Wolfenstein 3D.

Nothing beats a good ole' six hour game of table top RISK with four or five players. Somebody always threatens to smash the unfair dice with a sledge hammer, or even more, smash all the other cocky players at the table. Ohh, I just love it! Grrrrrrr >:(

I was a sucker for "Infocom" games.
My HS classmate Marc Blank became the macher of Infocom.

I guess you could consider football a game I "play" in the sense of coaching children's teams.  Think of it as a RPG with the coaches as players and the players as non-player characters.

Lol.  So it wasn't just us?  We only had one friend who owned this game.  It was always more fun for us to watch how mad he got after he started taking over the map in just about every game, but then lose every single roll after he was bragging about how he wished he had better competition. The anger would build until he'd throw the board in the air, cursing.   I don't remember ever finishing a game.

That is a fun game though.

He's pretty much a legend for that time.  Did you now him personally?

Lol, I like your thinking on Football, I never looked at it that way.    Nice of you to coach for them.

He raised the bar.

And let's not forget all the sweet catch phrases.

Kings Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, Heroes Quest, etc.

I used to think about solutions to these games in my sleep, when I did sleep that is.

My hats off to Ken and Roberta Williams who formed Sierra.   Beside Infocom, these are my favorites.  I remember thinking of how to solve these things in my sleep..  Pffft, like I slept.

Yep! Those guys are universal and they're at every game table but nothing brings out the raaaage like Risk. And what about when they start suspecting other players about having secret alliances! Lolol ..add booze to these marathons and listen to the colorful language while you dodge flying dice and you said it, game boards.

May God have mercy on their poor losing souls.

Conquest of Camelot was good, too. Graphics were a little subpar compared to the others you mention, but a great story.

Haha.. I'm wondering if we had the same friend.  "Why do you guys keep attacking me? Why aren't you attacking each other!?" even though he still has half the map and you basically don't have any choice.  You're right though, I don't recall any game, even the way too long ones of Monopoly, that brought out that rage.

When I was around 16 or so, we'd go to the Bowling Alley that was close by, they had some of the pretty good video games there also.  One night me and my friends bowled a few games, then went over to play a game or two of Asteroids or Football (They had that really cool table football game with ball rollers and 4 players).  There was some little kid playing Asteroids, so like everyone did in those days, put a few quarters on the console and watched while we waited.  This kid was barely taller than the controls.  He had his arms stretched above his head and his hands just reached the buttons.  He was almost staring straight up at the screen.  We looked at each other and smirked a little, thinking it's probably his first game and looked like he was having fun.  Well, around 25 minutes later and the kid was still playing on his one quarter.   We couldn't believe it.  He wound up breaking the high score.  He wasn't sweating it or anything.  Looked like a kid casually just pushing buttons and looking at the screen like it was a cartoon.  The only thing that broke it was his mother came over and told him they've been waiting for a long time but it's time to go.  He just stopped playing and ran along.  Leaving a group of kids wondering what the hell had just happened.   One of my friends jumped on the game, but died almost immediately a few time until the remaining plays were gone.  Instead of my friend putting his initials for high score at the end which we all thought he was going to do, he put KID.  That was pretty cool.
