I hate your 'coffee' cup. The one that says "Cup Of Tea"

I was thinking of getting you a Christmas gift to remedy this situation but after an extensive search I come up empty. I cannot find a classic coffee cup with the words "Cup Of Coffee" labeled on it.

Best I could find is this garbage..  EDIT: Apparently the image is quite large.

Ok, here's the thing. Since I've been here (Colorado) this console has had a problem of sounding like it's being overdriven. Plug a mic into my normal chain of EQ to Limiter/Compressor and then into the machine. No matter what I tried it always sounded like it was peaking in my phones, even when plugged directly in while troubleshooting and removing links from the chain. Nothing worked. It was in every channel too, both XLR and 1/4". Frustrating to say the least as I've only gotten a few recordings out of it since purchasing while in Washington. I was thinking that maybe the move out somehow damaged it, but damage in the form of a peaking fuzzy sound? Hmm. Overnight I let the drive completely reformat thinking that a clean slate might work a miracle.  ::)   Didn't work.

Right before trashing it I had the bright idea to try a different set of headphones. Wanna guess on whether that helped or not? Sure as fuck sounds like it. i was not aware that somewhere down the line I must have blown my Roland phones. Never heard of that happening. Have you? Like this was a freaking nightmare and I actually lost sleep over it.

I had it unplugged and was about to walk on down the hall to the trash room just before the headphone coup de grace.

If it would have been a damaged circuit or channel wouldn't that only be on individual damaged inputs and not every single input? It's a sensitive board and does need a lot of input volume to be loud enough before peaking.

Would have been a shame to have trashed it in defeat like that.  If you have anything to add @JUAN please do.

I once knew a groupie who would blow anything.

This is all at Mic level? Not line level?

Ya know,  only a few months ago you posted about a serious problem with your equipment and did you see me cracking jokes about it? No.  :P

I'm not familiar with that board.  Normally with electronics errors are first switches, then cables, then human error.  The only thing I can think of is a master switch that controls all inputs. I've seen switches like that hidden on the sides and bottom of equipment where they are hard to see.

My problem was sort of universal. Could happen on any console (I think) fuzzy dirty sounding channels. I am at least 80% sure that it was my headphones that have blown somewhere along the way. If all inputs are peaking even at low input levels something would be off with the main circuit board (I think).. That's kind of my question to Bard regardless of my headphones. When a problem like that arises I immediately go into panic mode, worst case scenario. It didn't occur to me that it may be as simple as the phones.

I recorded a talking piece as if I was doing a podcast earlier and listened back. It sounded great. I need that machine to work. It is my buffer between what I know and full-on computer DAW stuff which is all Greek to me. I am not set up for all that and I don't want to be forced into it as last resort.

If I had to go that route I would have a whole other ASK Bart scenario on my hands.

Did you unplug it and plug it back in again?

Yesterday I clicked on the faulkie thread by accident.  I blame that for my brain fuzz yesterday.  If the problem is with all channels it must be downstream, so starting with the output, as you did testing headphones, is the way to go.  If it cleared up by changing headphones, they were probably the problem.

Yup.
If you leave them plugged in all the time there could be a power surge every time you turn the board on or off.

Spotify doesn't have a shareable (to other sites widget) like soundcloud.

Hmm! Yeah I'd much prefer that! Thanks.  I don't want to post soundcloud embeds.
