KNYE 95.1 Pahrump
« on: September 25, 2018, 07:12:32 PM »
Its a Class A FM station with 6500 watt transmitter on the north side of Pahrump NV. The studios are housed in a 1999 manufactured home. Under any other circumstances it would blend in with over 6600 other FM stations across the US.

Yet to some Ellgabber's it is something special. It is the only FM station that was founded by the late Art and Ramona Bell in 2002*. In the early spring of 2006 Karen Jackson took the helm of the station at Art Bell's request. On May 18, 2008, Jackson purchased it.
KNYE features a blend of sunny classic light rock and pop in a playlist that seems to reflect the desert skies. It is also the flagship station of Midnight in the Desert hosted by Dave Schrader.

KNYE is also unique in that it really is a beacon or lighthouse to Pahrump in the spirit of community radio. In addition to local ads and news, Karen Jackson is a focal point in driving various causes and charities that help in the valley and beyond. Examples: Symphony Animal Foundation, Pahrump Volunteer Firefighters, Retired Seniors, and the Pahrump Community Garden.

I don't think I could handle living out West.   I think the rocks and dirt would depress me after awhile.  I like it green.  Here is Downtown Raleigh.

ABC Radio news about 16 minutes after the hour is also the pattern for the KNYE clock.

Last song: Walter Eagen - Magnet and Steel (1978)

Maybe we could convince Karen to sponsor a CuckshackCam™️ that would be on the front of Art’s Airyn’s house and aimed at the cuckshack. There could be a live video feed on the KNYE website.

Kind of like Early Warning Radar for Airyn and the kids.
Are we having fun yet?

I agree, that is mighty pretty, but the desert is too in kind of a stark way. My big thing is sunshine. If its gloomy for more than two days in a row I turn grouchy pasty grey reticulan  :-[

that in fact might be a prudent course of action...
after all, there was a Police reported stalker and gun fire
(and all those home security companies always mention the Police “highly recommend security cameras”...)

pointed at the cuckshack would be a logical choice of direction...
NOT because of who lives there...
BUT because that “direction” captures the street adjacent...
(the cuckshack just happens to be in the line of view)

having a LIVE webcam for all to view would be a benefit for ALL...
as not only the Bell family would be safer, but the cuckshack would get the benefit also FREE !

maybe BART, as a great person, would sponsor 24/7 monitoring on Ellgab by the members ?
if we see something dangerous...CALL THE POLICE
if we see a goat being mistreated and dragged into a cuckshack for sacrifice...CALL THE ANIMAL RESCUE

and STEALING FROM AMISH CHARITY

That is a nice setup for a small station. Love the heavy gauge ground wire.

The high desert is ripe with nasty lightning plus all the static.

Art did it right.

Sometimes I wish I didn't live in SoCal...  I could see myself working (probably for free) at a local station like that again in my declining years.
Eh, nevermind...

Early in 2015, I e-mailed Karen and asked her if the playlist was created by Art as occasionally there is one of his bumper tunes. In fact, it is entirely created by Karen. When she first took over the station there were only about 120 songs in rotation.

The playlist is called "freeform" by wikipedia, but there is a pattern to create a sunny sound if you listen long enough. The occasional country hits are often cross-over. The oldest songs are from the 1950s, but about a dozen modern hits are mixed in.

We will know KNYE has acheived gold polish perfection when they play some April Wine and Gary Moore for Bart Ell. (No worries Bart, I have yet to hear one song by either Rush or Yes.) @wr250  - I have heard heard a couple of Barry Manilow tunes, but fairly rarely.
