Words, Phrases You'd Ban
« on: May 03, 2019, 05:24:23 PM »
What words or phrases would you ban? My first choice is "problematic" ("the Robert E. Lee statue is problematic"). My second pick is "unfortunate" because it's often used in the wrong way ("the deadly earthquake was unfortunate, and it was tragic that it spilled my coffee"). Let's start a dictionary.

I hope that you don't watch CNN. I doubt that their panels could even speak without using the words and phrases on your great list.

People.  (As when a supervisor looks over the workforce and says, "OK people."

"Now" - overused regularly on the news because, well what is it, yesterday in the audience's mind?

Put me down for "Channels"  as in that crap you have to wade through on Yahoo to get to fantasy baseball stuff.

As in "Starlet Y channels Marilyn Monroe"

There's a long list of lazy and/or meaningless words and phrases I'm tired of.

Here are a few others:  Facebook, Google, Apple, Twitter, Kardashian, LeBron, Mueller...

Met a lot of people from the UK in the past year or so and they like to say "Brilliant" in place of old standards like, excellent, that'll work, great, good, nice, I appreciate that.  Really peels my paint I tell ya >:(

I would like to nominate "For Pete's sake"
Chloe don't know better. Chloe's just like me, only beautiful.

Even worse when they just go with brill.
