If I lost my husband, and my psycho neighbor was publicly claiming that he was communicating her, it would be a knife in my heart. Even if I knew she were a con artist or a nutter or whatever, it would hurt. Every time.

This whole scam she's ratcheting up with the Ghost Art stories seems actively cruel. :-\

Good question.  The only hicks I know who might say that are people from Eastern WA of my grandparents' generation -- there was a much-stronger urban/rural and class divide back then.  Don't know how far that extended, maybe down to rural interior CA?

I'd guess she was around a lot of older folks growing up; I can't remember hearing that from anyone my age or hers.
