No harder to believe than the science of evolution. I heard this from a Anthropology instructor in college, I paraphrase, "Although I teach scientific knowledge and theory, and don't believe in a superior being, we teach evolution with convenient leaps in evolution. Because the timeline for this planets evolution is not long enough to apply true evolution of species. So, an argument could be made that evolution and a 7 day creation of the earth take equal amounts of faith."
Anybody ever hear something along those lines in their education?
"Inherit The Wind." Great play, Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. GREAT film with Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, Gene Kelly, and a young, pre-Bewitched Dick York. Based on Scopes trial (true story) in the 1920's about teaching evolution in school.
Basic premise comes down to Darrow arguing that the bible does not specify how long the first day of creation was, nor any of the other days. Does not say 24 hours (did they have the 24-hour clock back then when the bible was written down? Don't know). So day one could have been millions of years and would still be day one. Interesting argument!
Anyway, great play and film! Enjoy.
