Definitely an effort was made here to make the meal spread look larger, fancier, and more home prepared than it really was. The addition of the oven rack for the duck was a nice touch, but perhaps it was just reheated.

"You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me."
--Pink Floyd "Brain Damage"

The enormous knife beside it is longer than the poor beast.  The whole thing is a little Bob Cratchit, if you ask me.

This analysis is so tacky, but I’m lmao.

Yeah, tacky food snobbery is always fun.  In my defense, I might be reduced to such convenience if I was alone, but I sure wouldn't post the evidence for everyone.

You wouldn’t have burnt the pie and you would have placed the napkin correctly.

My first thought when I saw it was that it was a mail order smoked duck

Edit: but it could be a goose.

Oh mail-order!  She wouldn't have to leave the house, good thinking.

I've been scoping out the geese the local Safeway stocks at Christmas and they're quite a bit larger.  I kind of want to try one -- we usually have ham.

Maybe the new boyfriend gave her a membership in the "Fowl of the Month Club".

That’s no goose (that’s a space station!!) not anywhere big enough for a goose.
Give pees a chance.

I think there is a goose there, it just happens to be taking the picture.   ;)

Eh?  I'll opt out of January.

True on the pie, but I was taught the napkin goes on the plate.

Risky, if she(they) is(are) high, the napkin could get eaten

They look larger to start but once you cook them you get about a half gallon of fat in the pan. I was shocked the first time I tried to cook a store bought one how much fat oozed out. When I have gone goose hunting we always just breasted them out. The wild geese don’t have near the fat. As least the snows and speckled bellies that are common down here. The breasts are really dark. Almost like liver.  I don’t care for them. My brother loves them. He soaks them in milk like liver. Of course he likes liver and I don’t.

Another thing forgotten here. Art has said that he hates turkey. Might she have picked up this tradition from the Bells or is this an interpretation of what Art would have wanted?

Geez, thanks for the warning!  I might have overflowed my roasting pan, with disastrous results.

Interesting about the wild geese.  AFAIK liver tastes the way it does mostly because it retains blood.  Adding blood to stew, as in Filipino dinuguan,, produces a liverish flavor.

Did he indeed?!  I think you've cracked it!
