Migratory ducks are incredibly hard to kill once they are on the water. I have shot a wounded duck multiple times and mostly just knocked feathers of their back. You have to count on bb’s hitting their head.

No. We always jump them up. I’m talking about when you wing one and they settle on the water and you have to chase it across the marsh or to keep from wearing out the dogs if they are swimming away.

Ok, I figured. I once got a goose but only winged (stupid new non-lead ammo) and so ventured out to get...almost hip deep in mud and the blue kept swimming awkwardly away. So I kept after it. Suddenly big "Splash" and goose gone and I'm thinking "HS!" And then tried to "run" back to shore. Ha. Slowest/fastest run I ever did since so muddy. I think it was a alligator gar since caught some in the same bay and no gators around there normally. Would rather I had dog. Dog friend brought was untrained and annoying. Chased cattle and bullied his way around camp knocking things over. Good dog, bad owner.
