Shelters don't take pets. I took physical abuse from one person until I could get out, but it took seasons because I would not separate from my pets. Another time prior, I did separate from a pet for two weeks in a shelter before re-establishing after abuse. Every time I think of how I abandoned the little helpless pet, and how lucky I was that she was not hurt or lost and was still available for pick-up, I can hardly think about it because it rips me up.
