I was only at Bellgab for a month maybe a month and half before it shut down. I just didn't interject myself into the flame wars. Had my fill of that from two blogs I exiled myself from.

I don't think I want to participate in that here. I'll keep my politics on the political threads.

Say want you want. I have a pretty good mental ignore button.

In the gabcast in February 2016 I felt he took ownership of how bad he screwed up.

Agreed.  Hard to forget the Vara drama back then too.

The guys on the football team I played on were NOT allowed to behave that way in class. If any teacher complained about our behavior in class, you were sitting out the next game, no questions asked. And you would go through hell in practice that week, run until your legs gave out or you puked, whichever came first. Our coaches didn't tolerate horseshit like that. Or bad grades. You would make that mistake once, never twice. That was back when discipline was seen as a positive. Now coaches get fired for that.
You were probably at a school where football mattered! Remember, this was in a NYC-area suburbs university, and their football team was, shall we say, less than stellar... and certainly not a major attraction nor a big money-maker for the school. <G>

What the hell- I'll take another stab at Ellgab / Bellgab.  I'm going to preface it by saying that I still enjoy it here.  If I did not, I would be gone.  I don't want people to think that I am slamming Ellgab.

The fact is that while most posters here claim that they were not enjoying Bellgab, they found Ellgab within one to three days of Bellgab going down, signed up, and were relieved to find MOST of the same faces.  That says something about the place that we are now saying was horrid and poisionous.

I'm not going to beat the free speech / protected status anymore (at least right now.)  And I am not going to say that this is "superior" or be stupid enough to believe that Ellgab is more mature.  It is mostly the same posters with a few additions (people who may not have felt comfortable enough to post at Bellgab, but must have enjoyed the posts and posters enough to follow it and find their way over here.)

I don't find myself self censoring here, and I did not there (I just noticed that I may have referred to a number of posters here as "stupid" in the last paragraph.)  I have also said that I understand why most posters were sent to the zoo.  However, with so many of the more aggressive animals locked away, I will say that I rarely visit the politics forum here.  I find it a little boring without MD and Metron there to jump on what I may post and it is the same vanilla political discussion that I can have anywhere.  However, I am enjoying the rest of the board.

So- now for a question for those posters who were not members at Bellgab...  If Bart shut down this board, and MV reopened BG, would you try your hand at posting there now that you have found that (most) posters don't bite (too hard)?

Answering your question ... I'm confident enough in my vocabulary to hold my own on BG. Would I be interested enough in it with no Art news? No. With Heather speculation? Yes. So I'd give it a shot. I lurked forever there. I liked some of the trollers, especially Six Week Tenure. He told it like it was about Art before it was cool. But if BG just became a shit slinging contest, I would get bored and leave.

I have a question too. If ellgab had a bellgab poll like MV had on bellgab's Falkie thread on each ellgab thread, wouldn't that solve these issues? One member one vote and bart does what he wants.

I vote yes

Think I remember that. Didn't he say he put too much too soon on her or something like that?

Not sure why MV didn't step in when someone went nutz and shit posted for pages to block others.  Like Star1976, which sounded like Heater or Rose Girl.

Hahaha.  Actually that was a guy, don't remember his name now, he admitted that he had been drinking alcohol and on some meds.

Total backwoods Heatherpath.

Yes, football mattered a lot at our school. We were very visible so we had to represent the right way. Poor behavior was not tolerated, it didn't matter who you were. Our coaches demanded a lot of us on the field, in the classroom and as human beings.

Was just MV's style. Some liked it, some didn't. I basically just went to BG for Art news back then. I really enjoyed some of the posters, especially The General. Very intelligent, interesting poster. Sometimes I agreed with him, sometimes I didn't, but he was fun to read and thought-provoking. Wish he would come back. And Jaz too.

Like you said it got cluttered up toward the end, wasn't what it used to be. I still checked in from time to time for Art news but not nearly as often.

Thanks for the response.  I will agree with what you are saying.  I did not consider that it ever got to the point where it was "just" a shit slinging contest.  I will also concede that I have a higher tolerance of shit stained walls than most, and my judgement may have been skewed by memories of what BG was in the past rather than what it became.

Who knows?  If you ever read about the human memory and how extraordinarily inaccurate it is you will know that I can not judge what Bellgab was actually like at any point in it's existence... I do seem to recall that I enjoyed it (and my proof is that I was there regular for years reading, posting and interacting.)

By that standard- I must enjoy it here (and I do...)  :)
