I'm not sure what made me remember this. I guess it just popped into my mind.  I was seven or eight and I accompanied Dad on a day long fishing trip. We were driving through the woods and he pulled over to a building that sold bait. We went inside and Dad spoke to the clerk while I wandered the aisles, looking at all the colorful fishing lures and what-not.  All at once I heard someone's voice, calling out to the clerk from the next aisle over.  The voice sounded vaguely unhuman, as if it were being shunted through a speaker or something.  Then, whoever was speaking rounded the corner and entered the aisle that I was standing in.  It was the first ever little person that I had seen live, and up close.  A girl, and she was wearing a short dress that covered most of her legs.  I was raised not to laugh or chuckle at people who looked different than me, but I think my eyes might have been open a little extra wide.  She didn't like my expression and gave me quite a look of hate.  We just stared at each other for some seconds and that was it.  I can't remember if I mentioned it to Dad or not, as we drove away.

Quite a special moment.

This slice happened some twenty years ago and I've already written about it over in the favorite actor/actress thread, but it's well worth repeating here. I was exiting a shopping mall when I saw a parked car at the loading curb with its passenger door open and a collapsed old man laying on the pavement. He wasn't passed out or anything but he certainly couldn't get back onto his feet. There was a pretty, older woman who was standing there, looking down at him. I walked over and asked if I could be of any assistance.  She told me that her husband had fallen down while walking towards the car. She accepted my offer to help, so I knelt down and got my arms around him and hoisted him up and into the car. (I was in good shape back then, and was used to lifting heavy things.) The lady was grateful and she thanked me profusely while closing the passenger door. She walked around to the drivers side of the car and got in. The passenger side window was open and I patted the old guy's shoulder and said something like "Well, there you go. You take care now, you hear?" The fellow didn't (or couldn't) say anything, but he did favor me with a big smile. And there was something about his eyes. They looked very familiar, and then it dawned on me. That fellow was none other than Jack Elam, the famous actor. As the car drove away, I came to the realization that I had just been smiled at by one of the great villains of all moviedom.
