Writing 6 episodes a year, I'd expect they'd have non-stop zingers.  20+ episodes in America and so much more is accomplished. I think Ricky Gervais has even addressed that critique... 🙄

It's hard to believe that it's been 17+ years since the last episode of the UK version.

There's not much I watch on TV unless it's an older show and just a few current ones.  I'm still mad that Prodigal Son was canceled.  Anyway...

There have been attempts to remake Brit TV shows here and most fell flat.  Coupling, Men Behaving Badly, Amanda (based on Fawlty Towers), and more.  Ugh.

I think the only ones that were better than the British versions were All in the Family and Sanford and Son.  There's a new one called Ghosts and it's a fun show.  Admittedly I have not seen the Brit version, so I can't compare but I like it.

By the way, @TigerLily have you ever watched Lovejoy?

No. I haven't watched Lovejoy. Hadn't even heard of it. I'm assuming it's British? I will look for it. Ghosts is much better than I thought it would be. Pretty fun

And @ShayP  I also really liked Prodigal Son. The third season would have been so awesome with the psycho killer doctor on the loose. I couldn't believe they cancelled that! Seems to happen to all the good ones that don't follow the typical formula

@TigerLily Prodigal Son could've gone in so many directions with each main cast member.  Their own story arc.  I was thinking maybe the daughter had the serial killer mentality like her father.  The characters were so good.  Oh well.

Lovejoy is a British comedy-drama focused on the antiques trade.  Each episode had a mystery to be solved.  As well as some sort of swindle or con.  The characters were great, as were the storylines.  Ian McShane played Lovejoy.  If you are familiar with Deadwood he also played Al Swearengen.

Lovejoy (in the middle) with his cohorts. (Tinker on the left...Eric on the right)

Saw John Cleese at the Mondavi Center a few years ago. He is SO funny. He asked how many people in the audience had seen Fawty Towers. Not many at all, I was surprised.
Also saw him in the 70s for Monty Python Live at the City Center. He came in the back, was dressed up like the venders at baseball games. After having to SHUSH us, he headed down the aisle hollaring "ALBATROSS".
@anniem you are one lucky lady.

The UK version seemed very depressing at times.

‘Yellowstone’ season 4. “Yellowstone” returned last Sunday night with a special two hour premiere, and it was incredible. ‘Yellowstone’ ends Season 3 with one of the greatest cliffhangers In TV History.

Took wife to airport for early as fuck flight to WA. Ridiculous flight time and no mood to deal with Asian Air Canada folk after a long line of other weary passengers. Some with screaming kids. Like me. We played run around between adults legs and I made a fort in little Mikey's mothers twat. @ShayP

There are so many series that had been put on hold... I wonder if they will ever come back.

Stranger Things, Space Force and Derry Girls to name three.

After seeing what happened with Brooklyn Nine-Nine on their return, that whole woke attitude crap could really spoil their returns.  The first return episode of b99 was so horrendously unfunny, I I have no plans to watch the rest of the season.

Wow. I'm odd man out here. I MUCH preferred the British version of The Office. I actively despised the American version.  ???
There was a little girl,
            Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
            When she was good,
            She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.
