I've been up to Los Angeles twice during the fires. I just hit 15,000 on my car and was doing regular maintenance when I discovered that my air filter, a two-stage filter, was just loaded with ash.

Vacuuming doesn't get enough of that shit out. I removed the pre-filter until I was able to get an OEM replacement.

Yeah but you like doing stuff like that. Any excuse to do car stuff at home. You're a tinkerer. Like me with building projects and yard stuff, but you're more Cars n' Guitars!

Paying $95 for an American air filter without the secondary stage to be installed in my truck feels so wasteful.  I got an OEM Japanese air filter with the secondary stage and delivered to my front door for $20 (as part of a larger order from the dealership). It seems more pleasing. I got to say though, my oil really looked bad, I don't think the dealership changed it 5,000 miles ago...

Tinkering? Yes!

I grew up in Washington State and was in the zone covered with ash from the Mt St Helens eruption.  People were using panty hose over their filters to screen out the ash.

During the Gulf War, the Marines were asking people from Camp LeJeune to send them pantyhose to use for air filters in the sandy desert.

Toyota puts a fibrous foam kind of thingy in front of their Japanese version of their V6 engine air filters. For some reason though, if you buy a Tacoma made in America or Mexico, they were not coming with those filters even though it's the same engine.

Was that the beginning of DEI? 🙄🙄🙄

It's nice to know that are fighting forces had to go outside of the box because there was no internal support to give them what they needed.

I remember many times losing little guitar screws on carpet and I would use pantyhose over the suction thingy from the vacuum. I knew a girl who would use jazz tights to filter things  they're kind of in between regular tights and leggings.

I never watch local TV news except for a brief respite today... RFK wants to have direct to consumer pharmaceutical company ads outlawed like in the past. I don't see how things like CNN, MSNBC, local news, local radio, etc will survive the drop in ad revenue. I hear a pharmaceutical ad in every commercial break. It is annoying!

@KSM you're right.  I had big plans but people wanted to give me money to do stuff, so I got busy.

Easter is a few months away. Doin' it for the food! The cooking and the kitchen martinis! And the mouthy bitch they're trying to hook me up with.
