loginAs 1921 transitioned into 1922, Mrs. Hoople did some housecleaning and it had nothing to do with mops or brooms. Shortly after the new year she got rid of a bunch of male boarders. This wasn't mentioned in the strip, so the fellows just plain disappeared. I have pondered the reason for such a move and have concluded that artist Ahern was simply economizing, or cutting back on his workload. A couple of men, beyond the three above, were allowed to remain, but even they would be gone within the year. The above strip is from January 16, 1922, and is the first one to mention Clyde, Buster, and Mack, and no one else.
