4-17-22 Mack is holding a stereoscope viewer and he's viewing what is called a stereoview card, in perfect 3-D, I might add. Stereoviews were popular back in the early 1900s, and they provided a way for everyday people to travel around the world without leaving their homes. Stereoviews are quite simply, two separate photographs taken by a special camera that matches the distance between both eyes, and the viewer, through its lenses and mirrors, converts the images so that the brain sees them in 3-D. The views were mostly made out of card stock and were in black and white, though many were hand colored and reproduced for mass production. I have a large collection of stereoviews and some viewers that I have collected over the years. Here is a stereoview that I found on eBay, just so you know what they look like.
