KSM,
I'm in the market for a planer but I'm not ready yet to drop several hundred dollars on a decent bench top model. So for now I am looking at hand models. Any thoughts on a hand held electric versus a manual one? They are about the same price.

For coolness and home bar decor I would go for the old school, but since you are not a home bar guy..
Also, how much effort do you want to put in to your project? IMO the electric gives you more control in your range of motion unless your
planing form is consistent and disciplined. Do you even want to break a sweat? No. You just want to get it done man! You're not a pioneer out in the Grizzly Adams woods about to hollow out a would be canoe.
Here's mine. Dug it out just for you. I picked it up back when I had to skim the sides off a few doors in the BnB house. It was fast and easy and of course very subtle adjustments made for finding the sweet spots. Dust bag included but of course all dust bags only get about 50 - 70% of the dust.
