Joint base Lewis McChord is huge! There is practically nothing between south Tacoma and Olympia because the base and the Nisqually Indian reservation own a lot of the land in between. And the Yakima military training grounds is huge as well. Thousands of acres.

I am talking about in terms of acreage. There used to be McChord AFB, Ft Lewis army base and Camp Murray before it was all consolidated. The grounds are so large they practice artillery firing and you can hear it in Tacoma. Don't tell me you can fire cannons at the Presidio. San Francisco is squeezed in a relatively small peninsula. On the highway that runs along the east side of Ft Lewis they have signs that say watch out for tanks with a graphic on it showing a tank hitting a car.
