The garand is chambered in 30.06 which evolved into the m-14 which was chambered in .308.

The m1 carbine is a fun gun to shoot but the .30 caliber cartridges are only effective at close range. Texas DPS officers used to carry them in their trunk.

The M1A is basically a civilian version of the M14 without a selector switch and with a cast receiver.
Yes.  The M1A is NOT a carbine.  It IS the M14 used in Vietnam.  It was "selective" it would fire both semi-auto and auto, like the M16A1, but with a larger round (7.62) vs 5.56.

Thanks GS. I've always wanted a M1A but nowadays they want an arm and a leg for them. Should've bought one way back when they were cheap at the Army/Navy surplus stores.

My mistake. I was under the impression that a carbine rifle was a short, lightweight rifle.

I have always regretted not buying an M16A1 in the mid-1980s.  I think they were about 500.00.  It was probably a good idea because you are still depending on family to take care of your belongings while deployed.  Some cannot be trusted.

I bought a Springfield National Match M1A around 96 or 97 and it was pricey then. I think I paid about $1300. They are about $2k now.

I have an m14 and an M1 but not a M1 carbine.

I’ve shot the carbines a lot though. Trying to hold a 3” pattern at 100 yards is considered being an expert. Most people have trouble breaking paper with all 15 shots.

That was the M1-Carbine, NOT the MI or the M1A which became the M-i4!

Mine is a colt with the bull barrel. It’s a beast and a safe queen. My go to AR is Wyndham Weaponry just because it’s light and durable.

moonpie's best selling book only brought him $179,000 and he's been milking that for years. He has made that last by sleeping on people's couches and mooching meals wherever he goes. Picking ddd as a source for ideas shows how desperate he is.

Yeah, just after he published it, the researchers slammed the Philadelphia Experiment as a fraud, and exposed Al Bielick as a fraud and Moon as promoting the fraud.   So his Montauk book was a flop too.
