1979. Dietrich and I are about the same age.  Our Father's fought in the same war and in the same service branch. The similarities end there.  I was greasing around on my Schwinn 10 speed, having impure thoughts about Debbie while Dietrich was in the jungles of Uganda, slugging it out with an armed chimp army trying to prop up a fading Idi Amin regime.  Where did it all turn to shit for me thread?  Where............

1979....Dietrich is a year younger than me. My grandfathers fought in Europe and the Pacific in WW2...Father and uncles in Korea and Vietnam.  I was 14.  Working for Old Bob Hardy picking strawberries and potatoes on his truck farm in Neersville, VA.  I had a Shimano ten-speed with a speedometer/odometer.

School sucked. I read about Naval Aviation in WW2 and built 1:48 scale models, lots of 'em.  I once stole a picture of a naked Asian woman with big nipples from a small Playboy calendar owned by Wayne Hardy in his workshop.  I secretly listened to AM/CBS Radio Mystery Theater at night using an ear plug jack to mute the speaker and modified my radio with a wire antenna from my window to a maple tree.
