Those are nice but expensive, plus it’s something else you have to keep up with regular maintenance.  The plan that works best for me is just to get the hell out of Dodge if something bad comes my way.  And don’t wait for the idiots in guberment to issue evacuation directives, unless you enjoy traffic jam disasters.  Get out and get out early.

At the least, fill your car with gas several days before bad weather is supposed to hit.  If you leave, you don’t want to be stopping for gas on the way.  If you stay, a car can recharge phones, has a radio, can give an a/c break, and power other things with a proper inverter.

Yes, indeed.  That’s always on my agenda, this time of year.  Keep close to a full tank of gas in the car.  “Proper planning prevents piss poor performance.”  Don’t count on the same type of idiots that bring you Afghanistan “success stories” to save your ass.

In CA we just carry a fire extinguisher and a gallon of water.

We had 7 tornadoes in NJ PA touch down. Took down some houses etc. One was in Princeton NJ , I think Bucks County in PA as well. Where I live we had 8 inches of rain. I have a whole house gas Gen and industrial sump pumps so I just watched the ball game and had a few beers....

During hurricane Sandy my generator ran for 8 Days straight.  Another downside is my house became a hotel, restaurant and cell phone recharging station.

I’ve been keeping my eye on that one for several days.  If anything has been consistent with it, it’s been constantly trending further east.  If that keeps up, it would end up in Florida.
