Life just got busy.  Something is going on in the amp circuit.  It cracked and makes funny noises and fades.  It is not the tubes as I have older good tubes.  They do the same thing.  I am trying to find someone that can work on it and straighten it out.

I thought about putting my tongue on the capacitors to see if they are still good but decided against.

I wish I had a back up now!   I heard a rumor that there is a guy an hour north that will work on tube amps for cash. But it may be easier to find Bigfoot.

Tube or solid state rectifier?

I wish I remembered what failed, but we had a really good sounding Crate vintage tube 33W 2x10 (sadly, I have forgotten).  I think it was part of the rectifier circuit That caused a crackling and drifting radio station kind of phase thing. Complete pain in the ass because the construction was surface mount technology. Not worth repairing.

Check your preamp out and your power amp in and see if somehow you get a good signal. It'll help you troubleshoot a little bit.

It now puts out no sound.  I could see blue flashes in the power amp tubes that coincided with the crackling before it went silent.
