As posted before, I just play guitar - I don't know much about the electronic side of things.
Considering swapping the 57 classic neck pickup for a Seymore Duncan. They're both humbucks, so what's the difference? When compared online it seems like most prefer the classic 57's, but.. I dunno. All that said, the 57 classics sound awesome.. There are also pickups called Wilkinson's that look identical to SD's and IMO are a bigger more robust sound.
This is an actual legit ASK.
I would invite @sean92008 to the conversation but he's busy dropping a single---coil.
SDs are usually well-researched and heavily tested by endorsers. Allan Holdsworth is a case in point where they did multiple stages of testing and narrowing down for a finicky tone god like AH.
They'd age pickups by physically smashing them together at varying degrees of pressure.
Wilkinsons are budget pickups that are finding their way as the OEMs for some nice Asian guitars.
I'd I can recall correctly, the classic
hard rock combo was a neck 57 with an SD or JB in the bridge.
I'm forgetting what my Hamers had. I'm so far removed, it's foggy.
