Did you have the chance to attend a Remembrance Day ceremony?

Been wearing a poppy for a week. Got a few strange looks.

I was in Chicago and someone called the poppy the Canadian virtue signalling flower.
I agreed, wearing the poppy allows us to instantly feel like we are better than those not wearing it.
We also get to judge the filthy animals not wearing one and get to shake your head in disgust at them.

That's because long before WWI the US had what was called Memorial Day in some states and Decoration Day in others to remember the war dead.  It was celebrated on different days in different states based on when flowers were in bloom for decorating the gravesites.  In the early 70s it was made a federal holiday.  That's when the poppies are worn here.

Back in 2015 (11/13) my wife and I were heading into Costco when a woman stopped me and told me that it was disrespectful to still be sporting my poppy on my leather after the 11th. I had forgot that it was on there as it had been on for over a week. She Karened us as she followed us into the store to see whether or not I would remove it. I kept it on out of....... you guessed it --- SPITE! 

After the better part of a minute my wife stopped, turned around to face her and said something to the effect of "it would serve you well to get on with your day, and get out of ours" Heh heh heh.

If I had that sort of encounter I'd probably assume I was being asked for a donation and wouldn't associate whatever it was with the holiday.
