Are you sure they were just a bunch of smelly hippies? They were packaged and fluffed for prime time TV like ivory soap. Plenty of good songwriters and crack musicians filled in. You can be damn sure that's not Mike Nesmith on lead guitar. Louie Shelton and The Wrecking Crew deserve the credit.

We hated The Monkees.  Put together to emulate the light and goofy parts of It's A Hard Day's Night.  Then came The Archies.  Much worse.
