@PB Do you have any strong opinions on tacos? Got in a bit of a debate with the Mexican maintenance guy earlier. Might make for some content. He irritated me in his Mexi-smugness on how us "westerners" don't know real tacos. By westerners I think he meant whites. Last I checked Mexico was in the west, but don't get me started on that.
If you're talking about the Old West, California is sort of west of the West. Mexico would be to the south.
But back to tacos. The best ones I ever had were when a company I was working for was building out a manufacturing facility, and a roach coach came by every morning. Our operations manager came by my office one morning with a taco and told me to try it. Jesus, it was unbelievable. Chicken and avocado, I'm not sure what they did to it as far as sauce or whatever but they were unbelievable.
I started going back to the alley every morning when I saw the truck to get 2 or three. Or four. The crew hated that, all their big shiny trucks, hard hats, beards, tats - and me from upfront. Tell you the truth though, I like those guys a whole lot more that office types.
It was a sad fucking day when the project was finished and the truck stopped coming. I saw it driving by on the street out front a couple times... never had a better taco. Not even close.
Then there was the time in Oaxaca, walking around the plaza at night, a taco vendor had a roasted pigs head on his cart and was making tacos out of that. Of course I had to have one. I made the right choice there too. The wife wouldn't have one, lol.
I used to laugh about fish tacos. When they first came up in a conversation, I couldn't imagine they'd be any good. But dang, I finally tried them, and I've had some that were pretty awesome.
Around here they're all good, but nothing like those chicken and avocado ones from that truck. You're making me think I need to do a search now, I'm not too far from Richmond and the Mexicans have taken over whole sections of town - there's got to be a superior taco in there somewhere...
