Thanks Walks.  Looks like Pea Research is a thing of the past, their site shown is no longer valid.  Randle isn't cited as a source.

This claim caught my eye:

1952.7.0       New York City, N.Y.     Unknown              FS-89TB,97  Anti-aircraft guns at Morningside Park fire on and destroy a hovering UFO. MPs recover large fragments of UFO.

Looked up this park, it's in a heavily populated area, through Harlem.  Was there really AAA in a NYC park in 1952? I know there was AAA in and around NYC in WW2, but were they still there seven years after the war. Maybe a call to the Harlem Historical Society or the NYC Parks Dept?

Aha.  Good eyeball Duke.  I don't see installing AAA guns right in Harlem  Might depend on what the definition of AAA is though.  Didn't NIKE come online about that time?  If so, they would probably put it on one of the islands around NYC but maybe in a park?  I know in Detroit, there was a NIKE site on Belle Isle which sits in the Detroit River.

I don't see anything I can identify as a NIKE base there.

Yeah.  NIKE is out - I don't think it was even deployed at the time of the shoot down.  Tried looking into AAA guns and parks.  Best I came up with is a model of a Sky Sweeper a dude made.

On the other hand, looked at Morningside Park on Google maps.  Looks like there was a fort or something there at one point and it might be high enough to blast away.

Yes, there were definitely SAM sites protecting NYC, but according Wiki, no US SAM was operational before 1953.  That's at least five months before this claim.  Besides, the claim specifically says "anti-aircraft guns."  I think the radar directed, 75mm "Skysweeper" would have operational by 1952. Probably still WW2 120 mm AAA around in 1952, and lots of smaller stuff.  Doubt there were many smaller caliber AAA in NYC , that's primarily intended for lower altiude threats. I don't think Soviet jets strafing Manhattan was high on their worry list.

Regardless of the specific type guns involved, you'd think what amounted to large artillery pieces going off in a populated area would have caught peoples' attention.  Reminds me of a "researcher" who wrote a book about what he claimed was open combat between the US and aliens during the 1952 UFO wave along the east coast.  In the book he claims aliens attacked and heavily damaged a number of US airbases, including MacDill AFB in Tampa.  Anybody who's been to MacDill knows it's also surrounded by populated areas and sits on Tampa Bay.  You'd think somebody would have noticed a pack of flying saucers attacking an airbase.

I covered this a few episodes ago. Interesting.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/police-across-us-given-new-ufo-handbook-as-they-warn-craft-pose-significant-safety-risks/ar-AA1qcWjq?ocid=BingNewsSerp

The "fine print" at the bottom of every page is noteworthy, including the document does not represent the opinions or policies of the police chiefs' organization who put it out.  The document is a waste of time, it offers nothing of real use to the cop on the street other than contact information for NUFORC,  MUFON, etc.

Maybe it has been seen before?   If so, its days of zooming around, care free are *over*.
