Weird one here. Nun is visited by the Star Ship Enterprise without its engine nacelles. The Enterprise communicates with her via grunts that come out of a hypodermic needle and convinces her to leave the Nun-hood. She then zooms off in a groovy convertible.
For those too young to remember, "Project UFO" was a late 70s TV series produced (and narrated) by Jack Webb. It fit the formula of a typical Webb series, lots of "getting the facts" and silly attempts at humor. They did use real, documented UFO sightings as a basis for each episode, but with lots of liberties taken. For example, the episode they did based on the death of Mantell chasing a Skyhook balloon in a WW2 era P-51 in 1948, they made into a (then) current story involving an F-106 jet interceptor.
Like Dragnet, the show followed the investigations of the two main characters, in this case a USAF officer and his NCO subordinate. Both men were based at WPAFB. Numerous mistakes in the production relative to military "stuff," like I mentioned earlier, lots of liberties were taken. It lasted two seasons, each year with a different main character. In year two, the lead was played by Edward Winter, who coincidentally was also playing the reoccurring role of paranoid lunatic "Col Flagg" on "MASH" at the same time. The two characters couldn't have been more different, still surprised Webb choose him to lead season 2. (The Flagg character would have great in "Project UFO." Imagine him browbeating the two nuns!)
I was working at WPAFB as a coop engineering student when the series was originally broadcast in 1978. The USAF was pissed since the show put them back in the UFO business after having closed Blue Book several years earlier. Lots of folks at WPAFB talked about the series at the time, and the local media all had to do their own stories, with the base PA office trying to keep them at arm's length. Also seemed to spawn an uptick in UFO sightings locally.
I read Jack Webb's (authorized by his family after his death) biography specifically to get some insight into the series, but it was mentioned only once, and then only in passing. The guy who played the NCO both seasons is still alive, and only in his mid 70s. I tracked him down several years ago, he was living in the South near where he was born. I sent the information to Noory, suggesting the actor (Caskey Swaim) might make an interesting guest. No reply.
