Hey Walks--

Any background on that mishap?  Can't figure out what type a/c?  My first thought was a Yugo Galeb/Jastreb, but both the Brits (Jet Provost/Strikemaster) and Italians (MB-339) have/had straight wing trainers with wing tanks.  Even the Spanish have had a few similar a/c, including the somewhat vintage trainer called Saeta. Could also be an L-29.

Seems to be an Italian trainer.  Going way too slow to be dicking around that close to the ground.

Thanks Steve.  The SAAF used those aircraft as light attack aircraft back in the day when it was fighting guerrillas in the bush. At one point they had probably the most capable air force on the entire continent, including Mirage fighters (and a home grown variant called "Cheetah") and Buccaneer attack bombers. Some of those SA produced Cheetahs were bought by one of US based aggressor companies, unfortunately I've never gotten to see one of them.

The French were busy today.

They seem to be mixing the FlavorAid in France. Sniffing out the Mrs. Macron situation might be a Clintonesque Wag the Dog.

Definitely not survivable.  Looks like the tail boom/rotor assembly has broken off, and main rotor blades look shattered.  Sounds like the pilot might have clipped something, a physical structure (building, bridge support, power lines, etc.,) but the maintenance records of a/c are already being looked at, along with the records of the pilot.
