There are folks speculating that the UPS crash will mean the end of L-1011/MD10/11 because the engine attachment thingees can't be reliably fixed.
Merry Christmas - Nice things, and posts, are nicer than nasty things.

I don't know why anyone with an IQ over 50 would even acknowledge these idiots.

Couldn't make it all the way through.  Will say that General Duke is sharp as a tack for a guy in his 90's and I got a laugh at debunk dude's assertion that Putin is bribing the U.S. over this.  If so, he's the worst blackmailer ever.  We haven't given the Ukraine the Sun, the Moon and the Stars but we've given them the Sun and the Moon.

Apparently crashed during a post-maintenance functional check flight.  An absolute brute of an airplane, I saw one in Aeroflot colors years ago at Shannon Airport.  If the article is correct,  probably the last flight ever by the type.

Crazy how big those things can be.  C-130 looks like a toy next to even our bigger ones.

There were three aircraft of this general size/configuration.  In addition to the An-22, the US developed the Douglas C-133, the Brits the Shorts Belfast. They looked positively elegant next to the An-22.  Both the Brits and the US sold their aircraft to private contractors.   The Belfasts were often hired from HeavyLift Cargo Lines by the RAF to move oversize cargo.  I know there was some character who bought at least a couple C-133s to use them to support the Alaska pipeline and haul timber.   To my knowledge, they saw little, if any, actually commercial use.

Car guy will be making an interesting call to the Lizard.

"Hello Gieco?  Yeah I was driving on the freeway, obeying the rules of the road when an aircraft tried to land on me and didn't make it.
The Chevy is in a bad now.  No! Really!  It is on the internet and everything........."
