Science Bob & FriendsThe second Wednesday of every month, we bring in our resident Spaced Out Radio scientist, Bob McGwier to discuss the scientific side of the supernatural and paranormal. Each month, ‘Science Bob’ will bring a guest with a scientific or research background to talk about the practical and scientific side to the high strangeness that surrounds us. ‘Science Bob’ has specialized his work in the field of Artificial Intelligence and has been leading the way using computer technology to help detect UFOs/UAPs in the skies over the United States. He received his BSEE Electrical Engineering and BS Applied Math from Auburn University, and his PhD in Applied Mathematics from Brown University.
Dr. McGwier also worked at Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque starting in 1977 and was faculty Auburn University 1984-1986, Institute for Defense Analyses, Center for Communications Research from 1986-2011. Most recently, Science Bob retired as a faculty member of Virginia Tech where he worked since 2011 as Professor and Chief Scientist of the Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and Technology.
Special Guest, Brandon SaffordI'm a civilian scientist, 4th generation mad scientist now. I'm the coordinator of The Nightwatch Institute, of which I'm the only public-facing member and owner. I opened it in December of 2021 after about 2-3 months of research following the release of the Pentagon report on UAP. At that point, I had been working as a Business Broker, and a Data Scientist before that, and an IT Contractor before that.
My Dad, who did Systems for Lockheed Martin got me into the family businesses of mad sciencing when I was a kid, where he'd take me to the office with him sometimes to help work on his computers when I was around 5 or so. When I wasn't there, or at school, I was at my Grandparent's house, where my Grandad wrote books on science frontiers such as lasers, robotics, remote controlled drones, missiles, etc. He was a retired G-Man in every sense of the word, and remains largely a mystery to us. He did a lot of work in New Mexico and Nevada and Fort Worth at all the right times, places, and institutions, and when he died, 30 generals attended his funeral.
His Dad used to own much of what's now SanteFe, and personally escorted Charles Lindberg as part of his Army Scientist duties way back when CL landed in El Paso headed to Fort Bliss, for whatever aviation and land sciences projects they were doing back then. You can still see his former mission on Palace. I'd love to buy it back someday, but I'll probably need a few million to do so these days. Granddad sold it before Sante Fe became popular to live in, so no, we're not rich from it.
My Mom's side of the family is most notable for her dad (a Navy UDT Frogman). Interestingly, apparently both my Grandfathers got to meet Robert Heinlein, one of my favorite authors, separately, before my parents ever met. But the truly interesting line to me is my Mom's mother's line, the Manatowas and Greyeyes of the Sac and Fox Tribe (Sauk). I started attending powwows and learning the old ways when I was young, whenever I had the opportunity to listen and learn.
That served me very well, especially during my scouting days, and helped me to achieve Eagle Scout and eventually, Order of the Arrow, in the Boys Scouts of America.
I myself have always been there on the sidelines, watching, observing. Children were to be seen and not heard. So that's what I did, then I went off to college, ready to change the world. I majored in partying at UT Austin, did awesome at it, but it turns out that's not a viable career path of study, and became homeless for a while. Thankfully one day a really great guy hired me off the street to work his ISP, because he stopped long enough to ask me why I was homeless and what skills I had. His requirements were that I show up sober and never be late to work.
Thanks to him, I had 20 years or so of IT contracting work before I moved to Data Science, from Data Science to Business Brokering, and then Business Brokering to Science. Along the way getting married, having 3 awesome kids, and dogs, and just listening, learning, trying to figure out what next.
That led to me opening up Nightwatch Institute, initially as a way to coordinate a civilian defense network in response to UAP threat. The more research I did, however, the more I realized that just wasn't my department or pay grade, and the military already volunteered to handle that with AOIMSG. The Civilian framework ASRO wasn't responding, and I began narrowing down what really fascinated me most about the Phenomenon.
It wasn't Spaceships, it wasn't Aliens, it wasn't Conspiracies, or Zero Point Energy... It was the prospect of Non-Human Intelligence, and studying it. So that's what I specialized in and that's where I am now. I connect dots where I find them. I'm most fascinated by Non-Human and Unidentified Intelligence (NUIs) but also Unidentified Phenomena and Entities (UPEs) in general. Finally, I am also researching a newly apparent network named Node 3 (or NOD3 in my tags), which mainly studies the woo.
