Happy Easter, EllGabbers! One of my daughters sent me this today. Something to really think about!

I agree with the sentiment but they got some very basic facts wrong. “When the fear and danger subsided” is way off base. They cowered in fear of their lives for many days. These apostles that had walked the earth with Jesus, heard him teach, saw him perform miracles, and even saw him resurrected and ascend into heaven refused to leave their quarters to preach the good news.
It wasn’t until the day of Pentecoast when the bible says God poured out his Holy Spirit and the apostles were transformed from people in fear of their lives to some of the greatest evangelists in the history of the world. 11 of the 12 would go on to be tortured and killed for refusing to renounce their faith. Peter, who denied Christ prior to his death, chose to be crucified upside down because he said he wasn’t worthy.
The fact that these apostles went throughout the middle east and Europe to preach the gospel and convert millions to Christianity and then submit themselves to torture and death for their beliefs is the number one reason that I believe in the resurrection.
Many people choose to go to their death based on their beliefs but almost every one of them believe those beliefs to be true. Can you name someone that willingly goes to their death for a lie? I can’t think of many people that would choose to be tortured and murdered for what they knew was a lie.
Happy Easter
