I'm re-registering an out-of-state Nissan Frontier pickup in Calif. As ALL pickups in Cali are apparently considered commercial vehicles, even midget trucks, I had to get it weighed. (First of all, don't all Nissan pickups of a given year all weigh the same damn amount? DMV knows good and well how much it weighs.)
Anyway, there is a CAT scale not far from me in Martinez (yes that Martinez), and I decided to take it there instead of all the way to Oakland. I get the address and directions, and drive over. I get there and there's nothing around on that side of the street but a 7/11 and a few big rigs sort of out back. I pull up and, yup, that's the right address.
I go in and meekly ask the Sikh guy if this is the CAT weigh station. It is. He tells me what to do, I get the printout, and it's $29.50.
So on the way home I'm thinking, I'm familiar with gas station franchises that have Taco Bell's attached, a Wendy's with a Wings Stop, various other mostly gas stations, 7/11s, etc with Subways or Circle K -- but these guys are really thinking outside the box. ''Ok, what should we add to our 7/11, an Arby's?'' ''I know, how about some truck scales''. Lol. Pretty good actually.
