I don’t think you have been able to buy liquid iodine for cuts in the US since the 60’s. They switched to mercurochrome.

They stopped selling mercurochrome in the late 90s/early 2000s because FDA said it had potential for mercury poisioning.

...and the only reason I know that is because I had to look up what it was when I was introduced to the musical, Rent. ^^;
