I believe they are treating it as a FOIA.
@DynamoHum @SpookyTim , hopefully this will be of help:
FOIA is a Federal program. The guidance for records requests from Nye County are governed by Nevada State Law, specifically the Nevada Public Records Act (NPRA).
It calls for a 5th business day written response to the initial inquiry.
Responses have three options:
1) Provide the records requested either by giving a copy to the requester or allowing the requester to inspect the records;
2) Provide the date when the records will be available
or
3) Inform the requester that the agency does not have the requested records, and provide the name and contact information for the government entity that does have the records, if known.
*Dispatch records will be retained for two years and the call recording will be retained for at least 90 days from the incident. NRS 11.190 (4)(e), NRS 707.500, NRS 239B.030
If you follow up in the event of any further delay sometimes it helps to specify that you are requesting information about this call "under the provisions of the Nevada Public Records Act."
