No NHL games. We were so close to the playoffs.
Now the cherry blossom festivals?
I am getting very mad at this virus.

What the actual f*ck?

Just got back from the Harris Teeter.  Wanted a loaf to make some Reubens.  No way.  No how.  All the bread is gone.  Like not even any nasty Ball Park Frank buns.  Nothing.   Same for the john paper.  Yet canned fruit, veggies and soup?  Mountains of it.  On sale even.  Like 10 cans of veggies for $5.  The stock isn't even hardly dented.

I can just see the Logistics Dude at Harris Teeter HQ just sobbing.  "Finally.  Finally.  I can move some of these damned canned Lima Beans we have been taking a bath on.  Hell.  We'll put 'em on sale and move the lot."  Next day the database inventory job runs.  Spreadsheet is built and
boom.  Dude goes all Kinison.

Just out of curiosity, are any of you actually scared of catching this virus?
This isn't the first time a flu like virus has come over from China.
We had pig flu, bird flu, SARS, etc.  No one acted like this when those viruses were going around.
Why is this one different?

My only concern right now is the fact that people are hoarding groceries. So those of us that don't hoard groceries are out of luck for our weekly trip to the store.

I was at the store yesterday to get some milk.  I thought about getting bread, but I still have a half loaf and I figured more bread is delivered every day.  Is that no longer the case?

Also, I was shocked at the line and the empty spaces on shelves.  Still plenty of Corona beer though.  In about a week I'll have the whole store to myself, as everyone will be eating down their 3 month supplies.

If that doesn't work, should be plenty of tables available in Chinese restaurants.

I am not. I have habits that have kept me from getting ANY flu for many years. Hopefully it will be enough.

You are completely correct.

Why is this one different?

There must be an incentive somewhere.
It certainly is bad in Italy, however, there are some major differences. Their country has the world's oldest population after Japan. The number of their medical people who got the virus is much higher than ours, so perhaps there is some effective practices here that they don't employ there. It is acceptable to greet one another with a kiss there. Etc.
I think part of the problem is that if this was something modified that got out of lab containment, you don't really know if it will follow the expected course of a natural flu.

Valid concern

Why is this one different?...

It's apparently more contagious and more deadly.  And another weapon for Fake News to use against this President by hyping it up with endless coverage, blaming him for anything not going perfectly, armchair quarterbacking what should be done differently, etc - there was none of that even during Ebola

@HopHey if you participated in the ellgab garden thread you would have plenty of food. I have mustard, collared and sweet potatoes frozen, and fermented carrots and radishes, plus some wonderful pickled beans.
Merry Christmas - Nice things, and posts, are nicer than nasty things.

Our yard isn't ideal for gardening but I guess we could have built some planter boxes.  The people we bought this house from turned the entire backyard into a party room.  The small amount of backyard we have, is covered in gravel.  I cleaned out our freezer today.  We have plenty of food.  If we get quarantined for 2 weeks we can make it work with what we have.  We've always been somewhat of preppers.
If we do run out of food in the house we can get into our bugout bag and we have those MRE things we can use.  We probably have 2 weeks of food in our bugout bags that we can use as a last resort.
If we run out of TP, I don't have a problem tearing up some old T shirts to wipe my ass.  I'll just throw them away afterwards.
Our front yard is full of trees.  We have 6 trees in our front yard so it's impossible to grow anything out there.  We can't even get grass to grow because of all the trees.  My father in-law has tried growing veggies in the front yard and it doesn't work.  We'll be ok, as long as this goes away in 2 weeks.

Ah, if you have trees you are ok without TP
