This morning, on a local station, the bank President and CEO for a Washington bank was on giving all the right words to instill confidence in the population that their money was safe.  That we would weather the ups and downs of the financial system (didn't use the word crisis).  Also that there was no need to run to the bank and withdraw your money.

The talking head then said mentioned run on banks. 


This is something I expected somewhere in this roller coaster that we are on, but this is the first mention in the news that I have heard the phrase 'run on banks.  Has anybody else heard this?  Run on banks?

North of you. No, not yet but I can say that we (wife and I) have tossed the idea around ourselves without the banks telling us that there's no need to do so.   Slightly related note - liquor stores were closed down across the country but just days later reopened when booze was declared an "essential"  Niiice

Most money is held electronically, we see it on our statements but there are no physical dollars for it.  The money in our pockets and the cash on hand at banks (and stores) for customer's daily use is about all there is.

If there was a greater demand for physical cash than usual - even a 'run on the banks' - the Fed would simply print what was needed and ship it to the banks to cover the customer withdrawals.
