India is still such a stinking crap hole. A perfect Petri dish for breeding God-only-knows what next in the line up of Corona Chan horror.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the supposed Covid deaths in India, including the infectious disease doc, are from other causes. Regular pneumonia, TB, etc. Going into some supposed hospital in that place no doubt is a risky business, with the treatment or lack there of, many times worse than the disease. I highly doubt the elites of the world are routinely heading to Calcutta for advanced medical care.
When I was there in 1986, is was really unbelievable. Everything - every tree, wall, side of a building, fence - everything was yellow from the waist down. I saw one guy peeing up a short slope, with it running back over his sandals. There were little kids - 3, 4 years old - out in the middle of traffic picking seeds out of cow shit and putting them in baskets to, I guess, take home for dinner. Long term travelers would bail and go to Nepal to take breaks from it, I met one girl who finally went to a doctor and found she had something like 12 different types of parasites.
I tried to be careful, but knew ahead of time I wasn't going to get out unscathed when I saw the cook at the restaurant I had just eaten at come out of the bathroom without washing his hands. Uh-oh.
On the way out of town, we'd pass fields where dozens of people were taking shits just off the RR tracks. The beautiful white sand beaches of Goa were little more than cat boxes.
So yeah, it's not all just Covid.
I really wonder what it's like all there years later, as they've advanced economically...
