originally called Schlitz Creek but the name was changed by popular demand in the late 19th century after its mispronunciation by outsiders over the years had led to a number of bloody altercations; 15 beards being set alight and 4 tarring and featherings, His sister Martha was a prominent vintner in the colony of Massachusetts.
