Okay, here's the thing: I delivered newspapers that "Our Boarding House" appeared in. It was still syndicated and published in the Hartford Courant or the Hartford Times through 1969. I had paper routes delivering each at different times but I don't remember which one it was in. Jus' sayin'.
Right you are, Kid. Actually the strip started out back on September 16, of 1921. It continued down through the years, with different cartoonists and syndicators until December 22, 1984, so yes it definitely would have been in the newspapers you delivered. I remember as a kid, reading the strip in a newspaper that my uncle used to get. He lived in a different town and the newspaper in our town didn't carry Our Boarding House. Thankfully, the comics that cartoonist Ahern drew have fallen into the public domain and that's why I am able to reproduce them here in this thread. Now, judging by one of the previous cartoons where his age was stated, we can ascertain that Major Hoople lived (despite his smoking and drinking) to the ripe old age of 87.
