I feel like I'm at a singles club and no one wants to dance with me.  Oh well.  'Til next time.

Hey Gunner, this may interest you. I had no idea this place existed until I saw a clip about it on the news tonight. According to wikipedia it held 411 German POWS, 31 German-American internees and 17 Japanese American internees. It is only about 60 miles west of Roswell. It was built in 1855 five years after Texas relinquished the territory to the US and the architecture reflects the Texas influence.  https://www.fortstanton.org/ Pretty cool. If I ever get down to Roswell for the UFO festival, I'm going to make a point of stopping by this place.

I'm listening to ddd's last transmission and he attributes his absences to holding japanese tea ceremonies. Gee ddd, I didn't know japanese tea ceremonies involved snorting cocaine. Shut up ddd, you had no relation to Lin. Quit yer lying.

You’re quite welcome.  Another interesting WWIII German-related story is that of U-boats prowling the Gulf of Mexico.

https://heartoflouisiana.com/u-boats-in-the-gulf/

I seem to remember reading somewhere that there was a concern in Texas about placing German POW camps too close to the Gulf, with the U-boats as a potential means-of-escape threat.

Heh, synchronicity.  I was just checking the Movies! channel schedule.  The classic Noir “Sign of The Ram” with Susan Peters is on this Sunday.  Susan was unfortunately crippled by a gun shot injury and tried doing some movie roles in a wheelchair.  The adversity sadly got the best of her at an early age.

Galveston had several artillery bunkers along the coast for artillery to defend against uboats. Some have been removed but some were just incorporated into the landscape.

Back in the 80s I dove a wreck called the Empire Mica near Panama City that was sunk by a German uboat.

Yes, I researched this when Dietrich claimed there were Japanese POWs in the area of Roswell. Ft. Stanton was primarily a detention camp for German civilians and Japanese Americans.  It had temporary housing and a hospital for Japanese Americans who were being sent to other camps once they were constructed.

There were several camps for the Japanese Americans in New Mexico and they were kept separated from the actual German POWs.  The only Japanese POW camps in the US were isolated in California and not further into the US interior.  Ft. Stanton was not the same location Dietrich claims held Japanese POWs.  That was a different camp housing 4,800 German POWs captured mostly during the Africa Campaign in 1942.  They were sent to the US following an agreement with Britain, which was unable to house them.

Although I believe it was wrong for the US to have forced Japanese Americans into camps, in deplorable conditions etc, the Japanese military POWs were never housed with civilians or POWs of different races.  They were even separated from other Asians who were captured helping the Japanese.

Japanese POWs were not on US soil after 1946.  Only two remained by that time because they were ill and in California hospitals.  The rest had been repatriated to Japan via ships in late 1944-45 and were provided clothing and money.  https://rkcolejr.blogspot.com/2020/07/the-roswell-nm-japanese-pow-lie.html
