That might be the whitest man that I've ever seen.  Gotta hear what he has to say.

How was it @Walks_At_Night ? I'm too busy to dive into it tonight but I did watch the first 8-10 minutes and I am intrigued.. Worth 2-plus hours of time?

For me it wasn't. I bailed about 1/3 of the way through. They mostly discuss whitey's podcast. Whitey is a good guest and the host does a good stream but I haven't heard the podcast so it wasn't worth continuing. Might revisit in the future after diving into whitey's stuff.

Just finished this and found it interesting. The premises is that Boxing is the only sport where participants from the past would crush those from the modern era. So a modern day big man like Tyson Fury gets demolished by Joe Louis.  The arguments are interesting and seemed plausible, the old timers also have an ace in the hole that wasn't mentioned.  Testosterone levels.

That's interesting, I will give it a listen when I have a moment. Genuinely tough, hard people often don't strike you as all that intimidating at first sight until you mess with them. Marciano used to basically just keep on going until the other guy went down, Joe Frazier was the same, and they weren't all that big physically. Foreman looked like the most unbeatable badass on the planet until Ali found a way to beat him. I think there's a sort of mongrel fighting strain in some people that just makes them much harder to beat than other people, it doesn't really matter that they aren't 6'5'' and 300 pounds of muscle.

I don't think you will find it a waste of time, even if you disagree with the thesis.

BTW - any updates on Jackson's remake of The Dam Buster's?  That's been like a twenty year saga at this point. Usually, if the original movie is good, I am not a fan of remakes. Best, just to leave it alone. However, Hugh Laurie would make a fine Barnes Wallis and modern special effects could make it worth a watch.

"M for Mother, out."

The last time they even mentioned the Dambusters it was to have a go at the BBC, so I'm not going to bet much on it happening any time soon.

Carnera reminds me a bit of that guy Nikolai Valuev, who was absolutely enormous and won a few fights but didn't really dominate in the way you thought he might given his size. As I recall, the Brown Bomber went on far too long and ended up losing fights to people who he would have beaten easily enough in his prime. They sound like an interesting listen.

If you want to go down a boxing rabbit hole I recommend looking into the Hilton family.
Davey Sr., Davey Jr., Alex, Matthew and a couple of lesser known chumps.
You got the mob, arrests, incest, Don King and a few wins along the way.

::) If I recall, I think that raid had like a loss rate of 40%. The American Schweinfurt-ball bearing raid was 20%. Pretty fair to call either infamous.

This was an intriguing watch...

Those old men quit their jobs for this stuff, sad. By the time I was 30, I was done and thinking about production and songwriting. (At 27, I bought a condo with my royalties, I was probably done then but kept on hanging out with musicians...)

Man. I haven't heard that in many, many moons.  Think I'll go down a car song rathole.
