Hmm. Guessing I should have watched the last half of the game. I switched to fights coz I figured things were in the bag - pretty much.
I understand, you come from a far off foreign country and don't know the history of the Chargers ownership.
The Spanos family is well known for being cheap-assed mofos. Before owning the Chargers they were slumlords in cockroach infested apartment buildings along the I-15 corridor in San Diego, namely buildings that were near Mira Mesa Boulevard. Back in the 1990s, there was a website that documented the slum conditions.
As football team owners, they often got sweetheart deals from the city council with ticket guarantees that the illiterate council didn't read and favored the Chargers incredibly well. They needed to improve their marketing, their team, their performance but they did nothing to improve because they were getting so much for free from the city.
After lying to the City of San Diego and its voters, now they ride the coattails of somebody else's wealth (Stan Kroenke). This is usually accomplished along with cries of poverty or just an arrogant expectation that everybody owes them.
Side notes: The previous owner, Gene Klein, was a favorite of San Diegans. He had real roots in the community, including regularly racing his horses at Del Mar. He also battled Al Davis of the Raiders in court. It is there where he had a heart attack and ultimately died.
Rush Limbaugh once talked about how much he respected the old school Alex Spanos. Talking about how a handshake was a deal and he would keep his promises. Apparently, a lot of San Diego listeners wrote letters to him, there were even callers to the show who were ultimately screened from the show but wanted to tell Rush about how they stuck in verbiage in agreements with the city and various departments in charge of the stadium, security, etc. The blowback was mostly behind the scenes but I remember it was covered heavily in the local media. If I had to guess, it had to have been the mid to late 90s. I'm pretty sure the host that was airing a lot of the grievances was a guy named Roger Hedgecock. That dude's it's been long off the air.
