When I need sound constructions but not necessarily music, my go to is Thomas Köner. I've purchased almost every disc he has released. So I have legitimately supported his ambient work as much as I've cracked the wallet for Iron Maiden's metal work. Heh heh.

I love most of Gerry Rafferty's catalog. He had enough of a Beatles thing early on and he was quite "literate."
