Cursed family. He dies because of malpractice. His daughters both die of cancer very young and one granddaughter died young as well. I think it was UCLA who lost the malpractice lawsuit.

Rather downer statistics, but it should be noted that Jeff served four years in the army during World War II, and after the war, he honed his craft in radio. His good looks and deep voice got him started in movies and there was no denying that he was a damn good actor. He injured his back while playing baseball during the making of his final movie, Merrill's Marauders. As was pointed out, he passed away from a botched operation. One of his pallbearers was Tony Curtis, now how cool is that? But this is a music thread, so I'll finish by saying that he was also a fine singer.
