Fawlty Towers.
I mean, geez!

I've been a Saunders/French fan going back to The Young Ones.  Murder Most Horrid, AbFab, Dibley, all pleasant watches.

Basil!

Saw John Cleese at the Mondavi Center a few years ago. He is SO funny. He asked how many people in the audience had seen Fawty Towers. Not many at all, I was surprised.
Also saw him in the 70s for Monty Python Live at the City Center. He came in the back, was dressed up like the venders at baseball games. After having to SHUSH us, he headed down the aisle hollaring "ALBATROSS".

Sounds like a rather brief encounter. Perhaps he was on a tight schedule and ran out of THYME.

I agree with the Shaymaster. Smart comedies and smart SciFi. Too much of American TV is dumbed down for the common denominator. I tried out La Brea. Disappointed

If it were some sort of vortex portal, instead of a big fucking hole, I could see where people could transport to it. Falling down a big hole could kill you.

There's not much I watch on TV unless it's an older show and just a few current ones.  I'm still mad that Prodigal Son was canceled.  Anyway...

There have been attempts to remake Brit TV shows here and most fell flat.  Coupling, Men Behaving Badly, Amanda (based on Fawlty Towers), and more.  Ugh.

I think the only ones that were better than the British versions were All in the Family and Sanford and Son.  There's a new one called Ghosts and it's a fun show.  Admittedly I have not seen the Brit version, so I can't compare but I like it.

By the way, @TigerLily have you ever watched Lovejoy?

I was curious about that show but as soon as I saw the trailer and it was a big sinkhole I thought it was dumb.  Just go down a waterfall like in Land of the Lost.  ;D

I would have to say that I like the American version of The Office better as well. It was livelier. Ricky's version was funny but at a 4-level. The American version had all sorts of ensemble stuff going on simultaneously on many occasions.

Michael Scott is still more infuriating though.

Ah yes.  The Office.  I agree that the American version was better.  The UK version seemed very depressing at times.

Writing 6 episodes a year, I'd expect they'd have non-stop zingers.  20+ episodes in America and so much more is accomplished. I think Ricky Gervais has even addressed that critique... 🙄
