It seems I am quite allergic to the earth. When I went to Baltimore I thought I'd be better, however it seemed worse. Then it rained, and I was fine. So I do have allergies and have read that hepa filters are helpful. Is Alpine Living Air hepa?
No, it's a higher level of relief than hepa filters. It's an ozone generator and ionizer machine, very safe, cleans all kinds of particles, pollens, smoke, odors, etc. in a large area in a house or apartment. Not cheap, but I've had mine about 15 years now (been using them since 1990, this is only the second one), running 24/7, nothing to replace, only needs to be regularly cleaned by removing the filter and a part and rinsing them, also dusting the inside of the unit.
The newer units have a washable hepa filter as well.
There are several sites that sell them, some better than others. If you're interested, I'll take a look around later and send you the best links. If not, no worries!
Btw, traveling from one local area to another part of the country or anywhere else that is more than a few hundred miles can trigger new allergy responses since the specific combination of pollens and particulates in the air can vary greatly. Your body is mostly used to the ones where you spend the most time, where you live. I had a devil of a time for the first two years after I moved from NYC to where I live now because of this, and it's only starting to get better now, 4 1/2 years later.
