Only if you let it be.
Common sense seems to be working elsewhere.
Speaking politically, what's really bizarre is something like this could have been a gift to Trump. I thought Trump was in trouble since the mid-terms where the Dems outvoted the Repubs by 9%. Trump Avg Approval/Disapproval rate at midterm Nov18 was 44%/53%, the exact margin that 2018 midterms (Polls were 100% right there). He might squeak out an electrol college victory by losing by 2 or maaybe 3% but more than that he's not winning. If you go state by state 2018 popular vote in the mid-term and put the electrol college formul in it the, Dems would have won 314-224 (flipping back Fla, Penn, Mich, Wisc & Iowa) Even with a mid-term ass kicking, he didn't change his strategy at all and acted like he won the mid-terms Therefore his rating average was always around 41%-45% approval with most of the time being lower than his midterm number as he was usually at 42 or 43%
Then coronavirus happened, for the first time since 18 I thought he might win re-election if pulls a GWB and plays his cards right. HE had a shakey start when it first hit America but then he started to show some leadership even CNN's Dana Bash praised him (twitter called her out as they knew the real Trump has to come out sooner than later), everyone seems to be working together, the Dems in the house was giving him a blank check, he talking about being at war with an invisible enemy, a legit doctor with experience was in the forefront, I didn't like putting a politician like Pence in the lead, but other than that not bad. And his approval/disapproval rating improved in the month of March from 43/53 to 46/50.
Once the checks went out, all of a sudden he didn't want to take it seriously, blaming past administrations, blaming governors, he called himself a "War Time President" than said Governors need to do it themselves, but then at the same time giving out tweets like "Liberate Michigan" when it's Governor was following the guidelines his health team put out and he praises Governors who ignored it. I never saw a politician mess up a crisis worse than this on every level and now it's starting to hit his Red States he still kind of acting like it's not happening. All the time his Approval ratings start slipping Apr & May 44/52, June 42/55 and today 41/55 (remember midterms he was at 44/53)
This will looked back as one of the worst mishandling of a crisis in American history. If he took it seriously I think people would give him a lot of benefit of the doubt even if it hurts the economy. But on every aspect he messed it up (or was just so corrupt, who knows) health wise, spread wise and I still want to know where the hell did all those trillions of dollars went, because he fired the watchdog the week the bill past and somehow the stock market rebound and the most richest of people MADE money during this pandemic. No other developed country handled this as poorly
