I was at a hospital ER a few weeks ago. When the person I was with went back to the patient care area, I was able to go too. Last week, same ER did not allow me to go back to the patient care area. I had to wait outside. I asked about it and was told by the nurse that there had been a surge in cases so they had more restrictions. She told me they knew what the cause is, but were not permitted to tell anyone what it was.
Ok. How crazy is that? Hospitals are SUPPOSED to keep you informed and teach people things. I asked why she couldn't tell and she said it was because of HIPAA. I said that if she did not disclose any patient identifiers, there would be no HIPAA violation. She said that all she could tell me was to stay out of crowds.
What do you think of this?
