The early Brooklyn baseball team had quite a few different nicknames used by fans and sportswriters, including Robins and Trolley Dodgers.

When the spitball was outlawed, pitchers using it were grandfathered in and allowed to continue using it.  Burleigh Grimes threw the last legal spitter.

I've always loved the nicknames that the old time ballplayers had on every team.  Ivy, Hi, Dutch, Ferdie (Ferdinand) and Sweetbread from the above Brooklyn team.
